Trimming the Motor Side Covers

You can change the look of your 750 by trimming down the covers on the left side of the motor. If you trim the webbed areas on the shifter cover as well as the dyno cover, you will give it a different appearance, almost as though it were non-unit. That is, the transmission would appear to be a separate component than the motor.

The best way to do this is to cut the webbing off with a band saw, then use a grinder to contour each cover the way you want it. I use a cut-off wheel to get the cuts close then a body grinder with a #16 disc to smooth it, then a D-A with 80 grit to finish it. Following that with finer paper, depending on how you're planning to do the finish.
When you do this, you leave the counter shaft sprocket off to expose the chain and sprocket. I usually detail this area by chroming the sprocket and using chrome allen bolts as needed.
